Valentine’s Day is for couples, right? Wrong! Just because you’re flying solo on February 14th doesn’t mean that you have to confine yourself to your house like a leper just because you don’t have a significant other on your arm. Treat yourself to something special this Valentine’s Day, like a massage or a special dinner. Check out these great ways to spend the day if you’re sans a date.
Book A Spa Appointment
Pamper yourself on Valentine’s Day by booking an appointment at your favorite spa or salon. Pedicure? Yes, please! If you’ve got the money to spend, book a few services or even purchase a “day spa” ticket where lunch is served. Instead of being bummed out that you’re single on the big day, you’ll be enjoying being pampered all day long. Plus, human touch during a massage is known to boost a person’s mood almost immediately! Even if you’re watching your wallet this February, consider booking just a half hour massage or a simple pedicure or manicure. You’d be surprised that even a little pampering will go a long way.
Try A New Restaurant
Grab a friend (or go solo) to the restaurant you’ve been dying to try. Sure, it may be full of couples having a romantic dinner, but there’s nothing wrong with bringing a book or surfing the web on your phone while you enjoy an amazing meal (that you didn’t have to make!) on Valentine’s Day. If you don’t want to brave the crowds of couples on the 14th, consider ordering out. Either way, make sure you’re treating yourself to something super yummy so you have something to look forward to all day – kind of like a date with yourself!
Host A Valentine’s Day Party
Being single on Valentine’s Day puts you in the perfect position to host an amazing party for your friends. Instead of having to spend the night hanging on someone’s arm, you can mingle with your friends all evening, making you a great host. Throw a rooftop party if you have access to one and the weather is nice, or just string some twinkle lights in your living room or den. You can go all out with decorations and food, or you can keep it simple with snacks and ask that guests bring their own alcohol if they wish to drink. Make it as big or as small as you like, depending on whether you want to throw the Valentine’s Day bash of the century or if you just want an intimate gathering with your closest friends.
Veg Out In Front Of The Tube
Most people have to work on Valentine’s Day, because it’s definitely not a holiday that is recognized by the corporate or business world. After a long, hard day at work, you may not want to do anything but hang out at home in your pajamas – and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with doing that! Plan for a great night in front of the tube with your favorite movies or DVD’s of your favorite television series, and make sure you have lots of your favorite snacks and drinks. Spend the night relaxing and treating yourself to an evening of doing absolutely nothing!
Spread Kindness
There’s something about being nice to other people that makes you feel all warm and tingly inside. Instead of spending Valentine’s Day moping around and feeling sorry for yourself about being single, try donating your time to an animal or homeless shelter instead. Serve up soup to the homeless or take a few puppies from the pound for a walk in the dog park – bonus points if you end up finding homes for any of the doggies! Smile at everyone you meet and make a point to be as nice and kind as you can. At the end of the day, you’ll feel really great about yourself and your self-esteem will have gone way up. It’s a great way to spend Valentine’s Day if you’re alone!
Take A Class
Have you ever wanted to try a kickboxing class or an art class? Have you been dying to hit up the poetry slam at your local coffee shop? Flex your creative muscles and take the class you’ve always wanted to take or check out the underground theater you’ve been eying for a couple months. Valentine’s Day is a perfect day to finally do something you’ve always wanted to, because it’s a great way to remind yourself that you are a creative, talented human being and that you truly do love yourself!
