Top 5 Reasons You Can’t Get It Up

By isabellastone

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a term to describe a state of impotency.

Yikes.

But ED is actually very common, and often only temporary. Most guys out there will be able to remember one drunken night that they couldn’t quite make it happen. In fact anything from one too many hamburgers, to ill health, to how stressed you’re feeling about your job can have an effect on your ability to get it up.

Here are some of the most common reasons why ED may happen to you:

1. Reduced Blood Flow To The Penis

Hands down the most common cause of ED in over 40s is that not enough blood is flowing to your penis to make it hard. This is caused by a narrowing of the arteries which is a natural part of getting older. However, you may want to eliminate the environmental factors that can make it worse.

2. Smoking And Poor Diet

Yep these are the two things you think of straight away as a cause of bad health and poor circulation. Smoking and high cholesterol foods (that would be your favourite pizza) constrict and clog the arteries respectively. The result? Crappy erections. The penis is no different to any other area of your body. For your penis to be fit, you have to be fit too.

3. Lack Of Exercise

Remember sex is a cardiovascular activity, which puts it in the same bracket as running! So if you think you’d collapse after two minutes on the treadmill, the chances of you getting a high quality erection are slim. The more physically fit you are, the more efficiently your heart pumps blood, the stronger your erections will be.

There are other physical causes of ED: like Multiple Sclerosis, cycling, and a lack of testosterone.

This is rarer though than psychological factors like stress: which are in fact the most common cause of ED.

4. Stress

Yep that same feeling of ‘headache’ caused by your boss setting you an unreasonable deadline, or worrying about your parents’ ill health, can be the same psychological burden that stops you from performing. ED that sets on suddenly is usually due to stress. So if you’re having a tough time personally, as well as professionally; often fixing what’s going on in the work place will help fix what’s not happening in the bedroom.

5. Anxiety

Erectile dysfunction pretty much sums up the saying ‘negative cycle.’ If you have ED once then it can quickly become a repeat offender: because not having the erections you want is stressful. Best way forward is to take the pressure off. Enjoy non-penetrative activities with your partner, don’t focus on your erection and you can break the cycle.

So while the bad news is that ED is pretty common, particularly as you age; it is also often temporary. Making sure you have good health, a happy head and positive relationships will do a lot to counterbalance the most common causes of ED.

7 Ways You Can Increase Your Sex Drive NATURALLY!

By loveandsex

Sex doesn’t always stay hot, especially in a steady, long term relationship. But that doesn’t mean you have to get an Rx from your doctor just to be able to have regular sex with your partner. Medications like Viagra and even herbal remedies can leave you with unwanted side effects. Instead, boost your libido NATURALLY with these 7 tips.

Drink A Glass Of Wine

A huge reason for any decrease in sex drive for both men and women is stress. In fact, it could definitely be argued that stress is the number one cause for a lack in libido, whether sudden or gradual. A glass of wine or two before hitting the sheets with your partner will help you relax and forget some of the stresses of the day, which is an important part of getting your body and mind ready for sex – especially for women.

Wine also has healthy antioxidants in it that are essential for sexual function – however, it is important that you don’t overdo it on the wine. If you don’t like wine, grab a brew (beer has a few benefits of its own) but stay away from the hard liquor. Don’t have more than one or two drinks, or you may end up making your libido even lower and men who have had too much to drink tend to have problems getting or keeping an erection.

Quit Smoking (If You Smoke)

Smoking cigarettes can deeply affect your sex life, much more than you think it would. Both men and women can experience a reduction in libido due to smoking, most notably because nicotine is a vasoconstrictor – meaning that nicotine causes blood vessels all over the body to shrink. Since reaching orgasm is pretty dependent on blood flow to sexual organs for both guys and girls, smoking cigarettes can either make a person just not feel like having sex (because less blood is getting to the genitals) or have trouble getting to climax.

Smoking cigarettes can also lead to blockages in the arteries of the penis, leading to problems with erectile dysfunction. If you’re a woman who smokes, reaching orgasm can be near impossible, especially for those women who have smoked for many years. Also, women who smoke take longer to conceive when trying to get pregnant than non-smoking women. Do your sex life a favor and put your cigarette out.

Get A Professional Massage

Again, stress is a huge contributor to a decreased libido. Getting a professional massage – whether you’re a man or a woman – can boost your libido by allowing you to de-stress and relax. It also helps physically relax your muscles and even the simple act of being touched by another human being can be enough to re-awaken your body and your sex libido.

If you’d rather have a more erotic massage before having sex, you probably don’t want to book an appointment with a professional masseuse. Instead, light your favorite scented candle, put on some soft music and massage your partner (or have them massage you). Focus on relaxing their body and mind before you let your hands wander to the naughty areas and you get started with foreplay.

Boost Your Self-Esteem

If you have a low self esteem and don’t like the way you look, you’re definitely not going to want to get naked with your lover as often. If you’re really down on yourself (and you may not even realize it), think about what it is you don’t like about yourself. Are you overweight? Would you rather have a more toned stomach or tighter thighs and glutes? If that’s the case, go exercise! Exercise will not only help you get in shape and raise your self esteem, it will also pump powerful endorphins through your body that actually help contribute to sexual arousal all by themselves.

You can also boost your self esteem with simple things like a spray tan, a haircut, a new outfit or even a Brazilian wax. Think about what you could do personally to build your own self esteem, go do it! You’ll notice that you feel more confident afterwards and feeling great about yourself leads to great things in the bedroom!

Have A Heart To Heart With Your Partner

Women need to be emotionally and physically turned on to really want to have sex. If a woman isn’t feeling emotionally connected to her partner, she’s not going to want to have sex with him as often, if at all. If there are relationship issues at all, they definitely could be contributing not only to your partner not wanting to have sex with you, but you’ll also feel less like having sex if you’re fighting with your partner.

If you’re having relationship problems, sit down and have a heart to heart discussion with them. Go to couples counseling if you need to. Forgive things that you need to forgive and see your partner’s point of view. Do what it takes to work out your issues and when you do, you’ll notice a huge jump in how often you have sex – and how good it is!

Try Yoga

Yoga, like any exercise, will help promote  blood flow to your body – including those parts responsible for great sex and excellent orgasms – and increasing blood flow throughout your body will heighten your libido in a number of ways. You’ll feel better and have more energy for sex, you’ll feel more confident and sexy, you’ll be more flexible and can get in different sex positions, and overall you’ll feel better all over.

If yoga isn’t your thing, try Pilates or even simple stretching exercises. If you’re not an active person, just start walking. Walk to your mailbox and back, and make it a little farther each time you go. Committing to exercise will help you feel healthier and sexier, and will help improve your sex life more than you would think!

Check What Medications You’re On

There are lots of medications that can contribute to a low libido or even problems having an orgasm or getting and keeping an erection. However, it’s hard to tell which medications may be contributing to your sex problems and it can be especially difficult to narrow down the culprit if you’re taking more than a few medications – and this even includes herbs and supplements! If you’re concerned that a medication you’re taking might be contributing to a low libido or erectile dysfunction, make an appointment with your doctor. Never stop taking any medications without checking with your doctor first!

Some medications that cause sexual dysfunction aren’t going to be ones that you can come off of – like heart disease, mental health and diabetes medications. If this is the case, talk to your doctor about your alternatives. However, if you ARE able to get off one or more medications that are known to reduce sex drive, you’ll notice a jump in your libido!

Do Penis Pumps Really Work?

By loveandsex

Sex toys for guys can be touch and go – some are great and some aren’t. And the same sex toy might be wonderful for one guy but not work at all for another. Penis pumps are a popular male sex toy because most guys are obsessed with penis size – but do they work? Here’s why a penis pump can definitely be an asset in the bedroom, but why you need to be careful with one!

What Is A Penis Pump?

A penis pump is usually a plastic type, hollow cylinder that is fitted over the penis that has either a manual or motorized pump to put suction on the penis. When the pump creates a vacuum around the penis, it pulls blood into the shaft and head of the penis, making it erect and engorged with blood. Most men choose to use a cock ring in addition to a penis pump so the blood doesn’t go back into the body after being pumped into the penis. A cock ring fits snugly around the base of the shaft to keep blood inside the penis after pumping and to keep it erect

Are Penis Pumps Dangerous?

Most sex toys aren’t at all dangerous, but if used incorrectly, some of them can be. Penis pumps definitely fall into that category and if you have a penis pump, you really want to use it responsibly to keep from doing damage to yourself. For example, very hard or extreme suction of the shaft and head can cause things like:

 • Blisters
 • Bruising
 • Broken blood vessels

You can avoid these unwanted side effects by reading the manufacturer’s instructions on your penis pump thoroughly and following the instructions for use exactly. Not every penis pump is the same, so don’t assume that because you know how to use one, you know how to use them all.

How To Be Safe When Using A Penis Pump

Penis pumps can be a great way to make your penis, bigger, stronger and harder but you definitely don’t want any broken blood vessels or blisters from using it. So, there are lots of ways you can make sure you are using your penis pump safely and effectively.

 • Don’t use for extended periods of time. You’ve heard the warnings on Viagra commercials – if you experience an erection for longer than 4 hours, seek medical attention immediately. The same goes for penis pumps. A man’s body isn’t designed to maintain an erection for that long. Don’t use your penis pump longer than necessary.
 • If it hurts, stop. Just like with anything during sex, if you’re feeling discomfort or pain, it’s your body signaling you to stop and that what you’re doing is damaging your body. It’s common sense – if you feel pain, it’s a signal to stop immediately.
 • Never use an actual vacuum as a penis pump. The suction on a vacuum is way too harsh and WILL cause broken blood vessels and bruising which could require an expensive trip to the emergency room.
 • Learn how to use the valve release. Almost all penis pumps have an valve release that you can use which will release the pressure on the penis. If the product you’re looking at doesn’t have this feature, you need to be looking at a different product! Learn how to use the release so that you can take the pump off immediately if you begin to feel pain, discomfort or experience blisters or bruising with your erection.

So Do Penis Pumps Actually Work?

The short answer to this question is yes, a penis pump can actually work, depending on what you’re using it for. If you’re expecting to gain 4″ of penis size when you use it, you’re probably going to be disappointed. But if you experience problems with impotency and erectile dysfunction, a penis pump can help you achieve and maintain a good erection and enable to you to have more satisfying sex with your partner.

Remember that any erection you get after using a penis pump isn’t going to be there for long if you don’t use a cock ring as well. A cock ring is designed to keep the blood in the penis after pumping, instead of allowing it to flow back into the body and leave the penis flaccid.

What Penis Pumps Can Be Used For

Penis pumps can be used to effectively treat erectile dysfunction, and they can also be used to treat Peyronie’s Disease (when the penis is severely curved or bent). While you probably don’t want to expect miracles when it comes to using a penis pump, the vacuum suction created by one is definitely enough to make a difference when treating impotency and a bent or curved penis. Of course, you definitely want to see your doctor first before using a penis pump for either of these conditions – he or she can recommend the best treatment options for you, which may or may not include the use of a pump.

Physical Causes For Erectile Dysfunction

First, it’s important to consider and rule out physical things that may be responsible for or are contributing to your inability to get an erection. There are many physical causes for ED, including but not limited to:

 • Overweight
 • Inactive
 • Diabetes
 • Heart Disease

Generally speaking, the healthier and more active you are, the less likely you are to have erection problems. If you aren’t in good health or live a sedentary lifestyle, there is more of a chance that you will experience the inability to get or maintain an erection at some point. The same applies if you use recreational drugs or abuse alcohol. If the latter applies to you, start eliminating things in your life that might be contributing to your ED, one at a time.

If you drink excessively or smoke, quit. If you’re not active, start taking short walks around your home or office and make a commitment to eating more nutritionally rich foods. If your body is healthy and has what it needs, it is more likely that it will perform well in all areas of your life, including sex.

When To See The Doctor

If you live an active lifestyle, are healthy and don’t use any recreational drugs or overdo it on the alcohol and are still experiencing erectile dysfunction, it’s time to make an appointment with your doctor. Your doctor can help rule out more serious problems that could be responsible.

Emotional Causes For Erectile Dysfunction

There are just as many, if not more, emotional reasons for erectile dysfunction as there are physical. Stress from work or your family is a huge reason you may be experiencing ED, and other factors such as depression and anxiety can contribute as well. Stress, depression and anxiety can cause all kinds of problems in your life, including ED or even trouble reaching orgasm.

Even if anxiety or depression isn’t the cause of your erection problems, the medications for these issues (and other medications as well) can also contribute to impotency and orgasm problems.

How To Trace It Back To The Root

Although there are dozens of different things that can cause or contribute to ED, you can most likely find your answer by thinking about what you started doing differently when you started experiencing erection problems. Did you just start a new medication? Did you lose your job or did a close friend or family member pass away? Thinking back to what was going on in your life at the time is probably the biggest indicator of the true cause of your impotency.

Is It Her?

If you’ve exhausted all of your other options and you’re still having problems with impotency, consider the possibility that your partner may actually be the cause of your issues. For example, if you’re currently having relationship problems or if you caught her cheating on you in the past, your subconscious may be recoiling from her during sex and this may be causing you to have problems getting or keeping an erection during sex with her.

Basically, any unresolved issue you have with your partner may manifest itself as stress and carry over to the bedroom. You may also be suffering from performance anxiety – if you’re trying desperately to please her and are worried that your performance isn’t going to measure up, you’re not going to be able to maintain a rock hard erection.

Relax And Have Fun

If you’re healthy, active and aren’t having any relationship problems with your partner, just relax a little and remember that sex is all about having fun and having a great time with someone you care about and who cares about you. If you stress out too much about it, you’re going to make your issue worse instead of better! Relax and have fun!

Fixing Erectile Dysfunction: What Works And What Doesn’t

By jackgrave

Are you tired of dealing with erectile dysfunction? Here are some simple steps for fixing ED and the common mistakes you should avoid when trying to fix it.

And let’s be honest, erectile dysfunction is something that’s worth fixing. If you don’t it can have a devastating effect on your love life. Nothing is worse than being with a woman you’re incredibly attracted to and would love to have sex with, but then not being able to get an erection. Not only can it be demoralizing for you, but for her as well.

First, what not to do….

Don’t Get Frustrated

Erectile dysfunction is as much a psychological condition as it is a physical condition. If you find yourself getting frustrated with it then it will only make things worse.

Putting a lot of pressure on yourself to perform places a lot of stress on the body and with high stress levels will only make it harder to get and maintain an erection.

Don’t Rely On Medication

I definitely agree that medication such as Viagra can be a solution, but I consider it a last resort. Using medication to solve erectile dysfunction can make you dependent on that medication and restrict the freedom of your sex life.

If you’ve tried everything else then by all means consider medication with a doctor’s supervision, but try and find a natural solution first.

Now with the common mistakes out way, let’s switch to the positive things you should try to end erectile dysfunction….

Focus On What Turns You On

Like I said earlier, your psychology plays a huge role in erectile dysfunction and what you focus on and think about before and during sex is part of that.

If you want to get hard then make sure the only thoughts running through your mind are those that make you the most horny and aroused. If you get turned on by thinking about getting a blowjob, that’s what you should think about during sex. Forget worrying about work or focusing on what isn’t working for you. Let that all go and focus on the pleasure of sex and being with the beautiful woman that you’re with.

Work Out Your PC Muscle

The PC muscle plays a huge role in controlling the blood flow to your penis. If you’re not taking 5 minutes a day 6 times a week to exercise your PC muscle (also called kegel exercises), then your erections are going to suffer.

Exercising your PC muscle doesn’t have to be difficult or complicated and you can do it while doing other things like driving or at your desk working. There’s really no excuse not to do it.

Control Your Blood Sugar

Numerous sources have suggested the link between out of control blood sugar levels and impotence, so if erectile dysfunction is a problem for you, you need to take control of your blood sugar. And for many people, this is just a case of making a few dietary changes.

Cut out as many sugars and white carbohydrates as you can (things like white bread, white rice, etc.) and replace them with as many greens as you can. Vegetables are proven to lead to much more stable and healthier blood sugar levels so take the leap and make the switch.

In many cases, fixing erectile dysfunction doesn’t have to mean medical intervention, it just takes implementing a few small changes to your lifestyle and approach to sex.
